Gosberton & District History Society

We currently have about 80 members attending at each meeting.

Should you hear of anyone else who wants to join us do invite them to attend our next meeting – see details below.

The results of a quick survey carried out when the group was first set up revealed that whereas a few of us are interested in very early times (pre Middle Ages e.g. Roman and prior) the vast majority of us are most interested in :-

  • 18th Century  to 20th Century
  • family history and people
  • local buildings, places and old maps
  • local people, place names and stories

We decided to begin by meeting quarterly and rather than have invited speakers (although we are quite open to having someone come and speak to us from time to time) to have as much time as possible to share what we all either are interested in or have discovered. Do feel free to bring along any old books, maps or other items to discuss or show to others.

For details of our next meeting, please phone Ian on 01775 840694.

If you wish to read a book about the history of the Fens, please click on the link below. There are a few gaps in the pages of this book originally written in 1868, but there are some interesting facts to discover.
